embracing the unknown: my year in spain

the leap into the unknown

so, here i am. legend has it that moving to a new country can be life-changing, a grand adventure filled with excitement and new beginnings. but what about the messy, less glamorous side? what about the real stuff? i packed my bags and with a mixture of exhilaration and fear, i left behind everything familiar to start fresh in spain.

surfing through challenges

i thought surfing would be my escape from loneliness, riding the waves like a pro. but, let’s face it, i’m more of a “falling over and laughing at myself” kind of surfer. those early morning sessions on the beach became a metaphor for my life: wipeouts, resilience, and every now and then, a glimmer of triumph.

finding myself in the chaos

between volunteering, making friends, and the occasional job loss, i navigated through a whirlwind of experiences. each solo trip—whether it was exploring the cobbled streets of edinburgh, the vibrant markets of morocco, or the relaxing shores of gran canaria—taught me something new about myself. i learned how to thrive amidst the chaos, embracing every tear and laugh along the way.

so, here’s to the journey of starting over. it’s a colorful tapestry of loss and gain, woven together with laughter and learning. if there’s one thing i’ve realized, it’s that the messy bits are what make it all worthwhile. cheers to the unknown!
